Salone del mobile – Milan: Five Innovative Designers
In June 2022, our team had the chance to visit the 60th edition of the Salone del mobile in Milan. At this prestigious furniture fair, the exhibitions are not limited to the huge pavilions of the Salone. In fact, the whole city (and even beyond) undergoes a transformation aimed at wowing design and architecture enthusiasts.
A larger-than-life Salone
The exhibition itself is spectacularly large. The companies unveiling their collections do their utmost to stand out in this abundance of creativity and good taste. Brimming with imagination and boldness, the installations have everything to impress visitors attending what is now known as Milan Design Week.
Innovative designers
Needless to say, countless products and concepts caught our eye. Here are five of the companies that especially impressed us.
This Italian designer impressed us with his boundless originality. He stands out for his ability to dare and to design furniture and accessories that combine materials, colours and textures in a totally unexpected way. The results are breathtaking.
One of the reasons we were so fascinated by this renowned brand is its extraordinary attention to detail. Finesse and refinement can be found in every piece of furniture created. The company clearly puts enormous effort into research in order to offer creations of great elegance.
Lasvit demonstrates amazing skill in its work with glass and brings to life some absolutely extraordinary lighting fixtures. During our visit, we were welcomed in a very theatrical setting where we had the opportunity to discover some fascinating aspects of the brand’s creative process.
The universe shaped by Paola Lenti is totally exploded. Both indoors and outdoors, the furniture she offers is often distinguished by its unconventional style and bright colours. The pieces we discovered plunged us into an imaginary and playful world with a very special ambiance.
Italian brands are responsible for designing a wide array of fabulous products. However, it was the Poliform kitchens that really caught our eye during our visit to Milan – in particular the use of the modular concept to create incredibly aesthetic and functional spaces.
In addition to these five favourites, we were able to witness firsthand the expertise of another great creator: Cristallerie Saint-Louis. Since 1586, this company has been blowing, engraving and cutting crystal to create true masterpieces in the form of lighting fixtures or tableware accessories. We literally fell under the spell of their unparalleled know-how, which is passed on and enriched from generation to generation, and of the artisans who put their hearts into creating unique pieces of impeccable quality.
The design experience
Unlike many exhibitions, Milan’s Salone del mobile entails so much more than a simple tour of booths. The Fair is an experience in itself. Throughout Milan, designers compete with one other to amaze us and share their passion and their unbelievable mastery of design. We came back with our heads full of colours, textures and inspirations, ready to take our turn at creating spaces with a truly splendid ambiance!
